Be part of the Madison Children’s Museum’s volunteer family! Come and make a difference in the lives of children, and have fun along the way!

During the time our facility is closed, MCM will host our Road Show events off-site in the community. We need volunteers to help with these events. Please view the Volunteer Opportunities below to learn more about being a special event volunteer, and check back in spring 2010 to find out more about volunteer positions for our new museum! If you are interested in volunteering, please apply below.

Who Volunteers?

• Youth (ages 14-17)
• Adults (ages 18 and above)
• Families (children ages 8 and above, with an adult)

Requirements

All individuals who apply to volunteer on a regular basis will be required to fill out a Volunteer Application, come to the museum for an informational interview with the Volunteer Coordinator, clear a background and reference check, and attend a General Volunteer Orientation. Each volunteer position has slightly different requirements. Please see the Volunteer Opportunities section and click on the position titles to learn more about each volunteer opportunity.

Volunteers must be willing to commit to at least 12 weeks of volunteering. Any volunteers who are students must commit for one school semester. For this reason, Volunteer Applications must be received prior to the start of each Session.

Non-student volunteers are welcome to join the volunteer program at any time but still must be able to commit to at least 12 weeks. Each volunteer will be allowed only two absences during the 12-week time period.

Volunteer Sessions:

• Spring Session: January through May
• Summer Session: June through August
• Fall Session: September through December

Volunteer Opportunities

Family Volunteers
Family Volunteers are made up of a team of two individuals who have a long-term relationship or bond. The pair do not necessarily need to be related by blood, live in the same household, or have the same last name. Family Volunteers could be a mother and son, stepfather and stepdaughter, grandparent and grandchild, or an adult and a younger sibling. Regardless of the type of pair, the pair will work together as a team to complete assigned volunteer tasks.

To qualify to be a Family Volunteer, the adult must be 18 years of age, and older, the child must be 8 years and above, and have their legal guardian or parent’s permission to volunteer. Only one adult and one children will be allowed to volunteer together.

Special Event Volunteers
MCM needs help with our special events year-round. Volunteer tasks will vary by event. These are one-time volunteer opportunities that are open to individuals, over age 14, and small groups.

1.) Fill out an application below. Individuals 18 years of age and older, please fill out an MCM Adult Volunteer Application. If you are 14-17 years of age, please fill out the MCM Youth Volunteer Application and have a parent or guardian sign it.

1.) Fill out two applications below. For the adult in the Family Volunteer pair, please fill out an MCM Adult Volunteer Application. For the child in the volunteer pair, age 8 years and above, please fill out the MCM Youth Volunteer Application and have a parent or guardian sign it. Also, please review the Family Volunteer Contract to make sure that the Family Volunteer option is a good fit.
