July Activity
Month: July
Theme: Astronomy
Activity: Constellations
Constellations
Supplies:
- Large sheet of paper (big enough to cover a section of the wall)
- Markers
- Pictures of common constellations already drawn out
Prep:
- Tape or pin the sheet of paper on the wall. Make sure it is low enough that little kids can reach it and draw on it.
- Draw lots of dots in random places on the paper.
- Connect some of the dots to form constellations that already exist, or ones that you make up.
Directions:
Step 1: Before giving the kids markers, ask them about what they see in the sky at night, what are constellations, what are stars, or anything else to get them thinking about stars at night.
Step 2: Once the kids understand that the dots on the paper are pretend stars, have them connect the dots to make constellations of their own.
