Building Boom
This exhibit offers kids a chance to think, plan, design and build a dream city of their own! Building Boom: A City in Balance explores the people, ideas and tools that make our city such a wonderful place to grow up.
This exhibit features a three-dimensional model of the isthmus that calls on children to fill in the landscape with a large selection of buildings and other streetscape props to create a city or design a dream neighborhood. Satellite and street map activities help your youngster develop a stronger sense of place.
In the exhibit’s back gallery, larger-scale activities offer exploration and fun. Use the newly-redesigned crane to grab wire-frame buildings and create a beautiful Madison skyline. Grab your gear in the Construction Trailer and take control of those fascinating construction vehicles in the Gravel Pit. Try your hand at being an architect by designing a building or neighborhood at the drafting table.
