Drop-In Programs
Registration is not required for any of our drop-in programs, which are free with paid museum admission (free admission for members). Programs listed below are for the winter season, beginning December 1.
Tots in Motion
Tuesdays, 10-10:30 a.m.
Join Kathleen Madden in the Wildernest for games and gross motor activities for children ages 18 months to 3 years.
Cantajuego
Wednesdays, 10-10:30 a.m.
Cantajuego is a bilingual playgroup for English- and Spanish-speaking families with children ages 1-5. Partake in songs, stories, and games in the Wildernest exhibit area for early learners.
Rooftop Seedlings
Wednesdays, 3:30-4 p.m.
Come up to the Rooftop Ramble to learn about indoor gardening, composting and cooking. Sprout seeds, transplant seedlings, tend to the plants in our greenhouse, and do nature crafts. All ages are welcome.
Local Treasure Hunt
Wednesdays, 2:30-3 p.m.
Each week we will explore the treasures that surround us from people to places to things without ever leaving the building. Look at items in our community relating to local history, local culture, or local ecology.
Adventures in Everafter
(March 14-28) Wednesdays, 2 p.m.-3 p.m.
This enagaging and lively weekly program involves storytelling, dramatic movement, and play!
Rooftop Farmers
(March 14-28) Wednesdays, 3 p.m.-4 p.m.
Come up to the Rooftop Ramble to help with the daily chores of taking care of a rooftop farm in the sky. Help us feed the animals and water the plants, harvest vegetables, plant a seed, taste and prepare homegrown food, and do nature crafts.
Little Pioneers
Thursdays, 2-3 p.m.
The Log Cabin is open during this time slot for preschool-age children. Please dress for the weather. In the event of extreme weather, activities will be relocated to the Art Classroom.
Rooftop Scientists
Thursdays, 3-3:30 p.m.
Come up to the Rooftop Ramble for a fun introduction to hands-on sky-high science! Some of the topics we will explore are weather, astronomy, botany, biology, and alternative energy. Please dress for the weather. Rooftop Scientists is sponsored in part by Madison Gas & Electric.
Crafts From the Past
Fridays, 2:30-3 p.m.
Try your hand at craft activities children from the past would have done. Arts and crafts projects will be focus specifically on crafts that were popular in Wisconsin and the upper Midwest.
Clay Creations
(Beginning March 2) Fridays, 3-4 p.m.
Join us for a drop-in clay creations class. Make pinch pots, clay animals or another small piece of your own design! Projects will be fired in our kiln and can be glazed or picked up on a subsequent visit. $5 project ticket can be purchased at the admissions desk on the day of the program. Advance registration not necessary.
