Madison Children’s Museum is ready to expand.

Like children outgrowing their clothes, the museum is bursting at the seams. Three locations, each larger than the last, have accommodated the museum’s steady growth over the last 27 years and now we’re ready for a permanent home. After a five-year search, MCM has acquired 100 N. Hamilton Street through a generous donation by W. Jerome Frautschi and the Overture Foundation. Now, with our own building, we have the freedom to transform it into a unique, play-based learning experience.

We’re set with a site, a process, and a plan.

We’re driven by a long-range plan and have conceptualized the transformation of a five-story, historic department store into a new center of public interaction. Our new building will help us meet the growing demand by families and educators searching for hands-on, interactive, and intergenerational learning.

We are ready, and set to grow.

More space means more mission. Our new home will allow us to better deliver on our mission by:

  • expanding exhibits for a broader age range
  • increasing education programs and public performances
  • allowing for better accommodation of school groups
  • creating volunteer opportunities especially for youth
  • enhancing staff and workshop space
  • providing a community gathering and meeting space
  • improving visitor amenities, including safe on-site parking, stroller/coat storage, family bathrooms, food service and comfort areas
  • providing a venue for community, civic, and corporate events
  • allowing for expansion as our community grows

With a polished plan and new city block in the heart of Madison, we now begin to make real what our eyes of imagination have long seen – a place of learning for children from every neighborhood and town, children of every color and heritage, children who love the expressive arts or the mysteries of science. The world of wonderful possibilities lies ahead.
