Read for the Record
| October 2, 2008 | ||
| 10:30 am | to | 11:30 am |
First Lady Jessica Doyle pays a visit to participate in “Read for the Record”, a national campaign designed to bring attention to the importance of early education. By encouraging hundreds of thousands of children and adults to read the same book on the same day, the event aims to break a world record and to make early education a national priority. Children and adults will read the children’s book Cordouroy together at events nationwide on October 2, in schools, libraries, stores, hotels, playgrounds, offices, and homes.
Read for the Record is organized by Jumpstart, a national program founded in 1993 to bring at-risk preschool children and caring adults together in intensive, year-long relationships to build literacy, social, and emotional skills. Jumpstart delivers its curriculum to nearly 13,000 preschoolers in close to 70 communities across 20 states in America.
Jessica Doyle will read Cordouroy at a special Story Time program in the First Feats gallery at 10:30. Following the reading, student volunteers from UW-Madison’s Jumpstart program will lead art activities in the museum’s Lussier Program Room.
